Hmmm, unless the CDs are in a format your filesystem can't understand,
I've no idea what is wrong!
Which filesystem, which version of it, and are you sure that's the latest
version?

Thanks for your comments, I didn't want to start a war. I do care about the
future of the amiga, that's one of the reasons I joined this group.
Would you like some free commercial mamiga games ? This is not pirateware but a
scheme set up to give loyal amiga users a chance to download around two hundred
games that are no longer available. SimCity, SoccerKid, leisure suit larry,
ThemePark and Ferarri fomula one are just a few of the titles available.
Note the following sites, download and enjoy.
1) http://www.emuunlim.com/back2roots/
2) http://www.emucamp.com/amiga/maindir/index.shtml
3) http://website.lineone.net/~borrowedtime/
4) http://www.factor5.com/inside.htm
I don't know if these addresses are common knowledge in your country, I dug them
out of an article in the last remaining amiga magazine here in Germany.
I also know the address of a firm in Switzerland that have the rights to the
MIDI sequencer Bars & Pipes pro 2.5. They can sell it for the price of the
disks. If anyone wants to know just make yourself known and I'll dig the info
out and post it next time round.

Peak rate call charges are cheaper, they do the same 3-2-1 deal as ntl; peak
calls 3p/min, evening 2p/min, weekend 1p/min.

It works out more cost effective if you happen to already have a Telewest
phone line, my line rental is only 3.80ish as it is a second line installed
before Feb 2000. I also have the basic cable TV package and the main phone
line all for a grand total of not much over 20/month. The minimum spend of
10 applies across all lines in your home, so if the rest of my family make
10/month voice calls then my net access is only 13.80/month inc line
rental :)

They've added shed loads of bandwidth in anticipation of demand for this
service, so far I have had no probs at all connecting or staying connected.
Always fast (46-50kbps - on paper at least) connections, and this is proven
by consistently high and steady download speeds.

The full CGI capability is a nice bonus.
Overall I couldn't be happier, then I heard that they intend to make cable
modems available by the end of March and suddenly I found that I could be
happier after all. This deal will do very nicely in the meantime though. BTW
so far today I have been online for 6 hours on and off, it's great not
having to think about how much of my wages are vanishing down the phone line
:)
<selfish> Thinking about it, if I tell you all how good it is then you all
sign up I'll never be able to get online - so on reflection, it's pants, I
hate it, you don't want to sign up, don't touch it with a bargepole
</selfish> ;)

My name is Eric Oddy, I posted the `freebies=B4 under the name of
anguscat because I had trouble posting live and had to do it twice.
My question is to a certain member Mr David McMinn.
Did you live in Appleby, Cumbria some 30 years ago and did you shoot my
cat Fred ?
If it's not you, then sorry, if it was, we'll speak later.

I'd presume the WB3.5 one would be adequate. However, have you got it set
up to see Mac HFS CDs first?
TBH without the CD in my hand I've no way of telling what's wrong - sorry!

The reason I used to support Amiga mags and tried to pursuade business
collegues to go Amiga was because I already knew that. I don`t need a
mag to keep harping on about it. I know that KT66 valves sound better
in an audio amp than an integrated chip however a decent hi-end audio
mag doesn`t keep restating that.

I have just set up an A500 with to do video titling - should I throw it
away?

Yes I read that, evidently the reason that Amiga failed was due to
people not upgrading their systems. It was that statement which told me
all I needed to know about Amiga journalism. Actually AF published a
letter of mine on the subject at the time.
I have a 30yr old Quad audio system which sounds superb. They have been
out of production for some 25yrs and the company (as it was,) has long
since ceased to exist. However, the current owners of Quad will supply
any and every component, circuit diagram and free advice for this and
any other Quad item. They do not tell me to get a life nor to get a
current system.
> The fact that you've stopped buying Amiga mags makes me think you
> don't really care what happens to the Amiga in the future anyway.
Why should I care what happens to some remote corporation - they are
nothing to me. If something becomes available which suits my needs I
may buy it but I was not one of the people taken in by Mr Collas`s
speech last year and don`t believe for a moment that the classic Amiga
will ever come back.
There is a great list on onelist called Amiga Hacks, there is not much
talk about the future it is all people who enjoy doing things with the
equipment they have got, including a lot of A500s. I have been able to
get superb info from these good people.
Cheers
Will.

Who are scan? and what type of card?
I've just read that you cant use a 10Mbit card on a 100Mbit hub if its set
to wrk at 100, which we'll be getting. Is this true, and are there any
100Mbit card for the miggy?

Because windows is sold with virtually every computer, they'd make a profit

Hi Oliver

Very true, however my local cable company (The Cable Corporation) were very
expensive and offered a lousy service (according to my neighbours who are
already on cable) until Telewest bought them last year. Now they've got
their act together, which is why I've finally taken the plunge and decided
to have one of their lines installed. It is even cheaper if you subscribe to
one of their Cable TV bundles as well, but I already have Sky Digital and an
OnDigital so it's not worth it.

Personally I'm rather encouraged by it all. Having just redone my network at
home, it will be nice to finally have an unmetered net connection.

It's a 10Mbit card - your chances of getting anything faster over a 16-bit
PCMCIA bus are pretty much zero (100MBit ethernet for PCMCIA gives about
1.5Meg/sec - hardly worth it. You need Cardbus to get anywhere near
10Meg/sec). As far as I know, there are no 100Mbit ethernet cards for the
Amiga.

Yes they're in Bolton - they're near the Reebok football stadium, just off
the M61. However, about a mile from them is Dabs Direct,
http://www.dabs.com and IIRC they offer free postage. Oh, and they're
cheaper for most things, disregarding the specials ...

He's not on about this list, but the "community" in general. And yes,
there are those skinflints who whinge about the price of Amiga software.
This is exactly one of the reasons that pirats (sic) like Digital
Corruption use for hacking Miami and other Amiga software.

No, but people tend to take a mile when given an inch. A certain

No, that's great that you have a use for it, but you shouldn't expect
the rest of us to be held back because software developers feel the
need to support the lowest common denominator. Which they did, for a
long time. I don't have anything against A500s, I just don't see the
need for a modern Amiga magazine to cover them.

That's probably true, or maybe it was because people upgraded their
systems and then stole software to run on them.

It was probably something they'd been wanting to say for years, but
couldn't due to fear of losing sales.

If your computer system does what you want it to, then like I said,
that's great :) But you don't see PC magazines supporting 15 year old
machines, it's not surprising that Amiga magazines don't have any
A500 coverage these days.

The reason people care about the Amiga is not because of any loyalty
to some remote corporation. It's because we like the way Amigas work,
and we want to carry on using them for as long as possible. If you can
do everything you want on a 10 year old system then fine, but the rest
of us would like our software and hardware to be developed further, so
we don't get left too far behind. If we don't buy Amiga magazines
(among other things) sales will dwindle until practically every
company has left our platform.

Wow, it's full of people who don't care about the future.. sounds
great.

You seem to forget that we don't have a native PPC-OS.
I hear a lot of talk how fast the 68xxx emu. is on the PPC, but people
seem to forget that the PPC has more things to do then just that in real
life.
Say you wanna run a PPC-program, because we don't have a native PPC-OS,
the emu. must be running also for the OS side.
Do you really think that it will be that fast then?
